Having lunch with the Crazy Ang Mo

After a quick meeting in Bishan, we decided to hop over to a nearby kopitiam for lunch. The crazy ang mo western food had recently been featured in the news and seemed quite interesting. The lunch crowd packed the stall and average wait time was 30 minutes. Interesting how they use a PA system for calling customers and making announcements.

Clean your toothbrush!

Just came across this ad on the papers today and found it interesting. Someone had invented a cleaning device for the tool that cleans your teeth – toothbrush.

VIOlight is a toothbrush sanitization system. Come to think of it, there must be much germs on the toothbrushes but this system is not very cheap too and it runs on batteries.

Toyogo Warehouse. Blk 11 Toa Payoh Industrial Park Lorong 8

Mom and Dad went earlier in the afternoon to help us get some storage racks going for a great bargain at $38 each for black plastic 3 tier racks. After putting in 2 at the house, we realised we could use 1 more while parents also needed to get another set. Joined them this time to the Toyogo warehouse in Toa Payoh Lorong 8. Great selection of plastic products from racks, to cabinets, etc. Prices seem reasonable so think we should be back again.

No MSN!

I have been using instant messenging since my first job, in 2000. Then it was icq, then I progressed to msn. For 7 years, I am connected online to friends, some of whom I seldom meet up due to various reasons, every weekday (seldom use computers or log on during weekends).

My new company is more stringent on web use, so we are banned from downloading msn. Therefore I have been using web version of msn. Recently the company banned all access to sites which are associated with ‘instant messenging’, and even ‘entertainment’. Now I cannot msn, and I can’t even access to the movie sites to book tickets etc.

It has been a few weeks without msn. I have Skype but is just not the same, as less people I know are on Skype. No doubt it helps concentration but I feel so disconnected. But anyway, think work will get increasingly busy so also no time to chat, but having the option to would be nice.

Fat battle

Losing weight, or rather fats seem to be a woman’s lifelong career and often unattainable goal.

Being someone who appreciates food, and without a high metabolism rate, I often find myself in the typical yoyo situation in the weight category.

I guess genes is also not on my side, when my father’s sisters are all on the large side. Since young I was a chubby kid, which amazingly is cute to adults. Luckily I lost the fats when I was growing up. Looking back, except for being tall and big-boned, I was considered an OK size throughout my schooling days. Even though I thought I was a tad fleshy in during JC years, I now see that I was so ’slim’ comparatively.

In Uni, I ballooned. I blamed it on the discontinuation of Physical Education (exercise periods in school where all have to engage in ball games, exercises and other physical exertions), the fantastic western food in NUS Arts Canteen, late-night studying aka bingeing sessions among others.

I was not happy with my weight of course, but found little motivation to diet or to exercise. In 2003, with lots of encourgement from friends, I went on a drastic diet consisting of only carrot and green apple juice and also Hunza health supplements. I lost a lot of weight in about 5 weeks and sport a slender figure. At first, I was careful to maintain my new found figure with a non-indulgent diet, as time passed, it was hard to keep up that kind of diet so the fats came back, bit by bit, thus began my yoyo regime with numbers on the weighing scales from 2003 to 2006 (the year I held my wedding).

I used to say married women cannot get lazy but it was really easier said than done for me. of course, there are many married women, some with children even, who still make an effort on looking good. 佩服!佩服!Not that I go out into the streets with unkempt hair and torn clothes, NO! I just prefer a more fuss-free way to groom myself and often goes with just bare minimum make up. It also does not help that my feet will ache if I wear heels for too long, so I usually opt for a less flattering footwear.

Recently, I forced myself to be more active physically and hopefully less indulgent with the diet in the hopes of losing some weight. I know that crash dieting will not work for me as I am bound to pile on the weight afterwards through experience. I joined the company’s gym and I have my weekly aerobics class and badminton session with Mic.

Hope I can persevere and carry through. It will surely take damn long to see results. Hope Mic doesn’t get too lonely snacking alone… hahahaha!
