Gathering at Joey’s
We managed to organise a rare big gathering of ex-colleagues and friends at Joey’s place. It was a potluck affair and food was aplenty! Half of us brought our own home-cooked specialties and the other half bought / ordered food. What was supposed to be lunch ended up split into lunch, tea and dinner ‘cos there was SO MUCH FOOD!

Vegetable salad and mayo potato / egg salad by me! Took me much time to process the ingredients.
Roast lamb and baked macaroni with beef sauce by Joey. We were impressed by the standard of his cooking. Yummy!
Left: RA surprised many of us that he can actually whip up a dish! This is his honey spare ribs. Not bad! He brought red wine but ended up bringing it back unopened. My Riesling (white wine) was at least 75% drunk. Hee.
Right: Mun Kit prepared this very delicious and very appetizing dish – Thai-styled beef. It’s a bit sour and very refreshing and really whets our appetities. I have asked for this recipe already. Yummy! She also bakes cupcakes garnished with chocolate. Wow! Alas, they were served later and we forgot to take photos. They were great too. Maybe Mun Kit can give me recipe for them too.
Left: California Pizza (Peking Duck) contributed by Wanyee. Lucky she didn’t order 2 of this!
Right: Sushi party set brought by Kelly and James. Looked and tasted lovely.
Left: Ha, yes, KFC!!! 无鸡不欢的 Chin decided that he has better bring his own chicken rather than rely on us. Hahahha. Cute! He had wanted to bring chicken wings at first but as dinner plans were changed to lunch, and he had problem finding a stall that sells bbq chicken wings, he bought KFC instead. As there were really too much food, he had to bring 40-50% of them back home.
Right: Tian Lee brought Oreo Cheesecake from Baker’s Inn. She was teased about not bringing her own baked cocoction and had used the switch in meeting time for justification.
We had the above food for lunch at 2pm, then had the 3 Cs – cheesecake / cupcakes and coffee for teatime at about 4pm? Then at 6pm plus, we had jelly beancurd and dumplings, brought by Bee Jin for dinner! Pity there was no photo taken to show for them.
You can imagine how stuffed we all were… Nevertheless it was a good makan session!
We conveniently celebrated Joey’s belated birthday as well.

Pa’s birthday
My dad’s birthday fell on a Sunday in March this year and so happened that my mum was on a trip to Genting over that Sunday. Even though we had planned a celebration dinner the week before, but that didn’t really work out as my nephew was sick so my sis was unable to join us. Not wanting my dad to spend his birthday quietly, I rise to the occasion and offered to whip up a meal for him and the family at my place.
Again I laboured almost the whole day in preparation – going to the market, cleaning house and preparing dinner, in our haste to eat while the food is still hot, we forgot to snap photos of the food, which was REALLY a pity as sad to say, that was the first time I cooked a meal for my parent(s) ever. I mean a full meal and not just a dish, which I hardly cook anyway while I was living with them before marriage. So on hindsight, I really should kick myself…
But anyway, I cooked garlic prawns, steamed snapper steak, yong tau foo soup (many ingredients) and a braised duck (nah, bought from market, wanted to do thai-styled chicken initially). Also wanted to fry Dou Miao but gave it up as there were already too much food for 6 persons – My pa, 2 sisters, nephew (who doesn’t count as he had his own porridge), Mic and I.
Ok lah, review for the food is “not bad”, “quite good”. Haha. I am satisfied with the results myself. Hee hee.
Luckily, Mic had thought to take the camera out when we came to cutting the cake. Mum was in time to join us for cake, thanks to a cousin who went to pick up our mothers.

Left: As usual, any birthday celebrations all seem and felt like the kid’s birthday party. Look at Max’s cheeky face!

Celeste’s First Birthday Party
Our niece Celeste (from Mic’s side of the family) has turned one year old in January. A birthday party was thrown in her honour at Aloha Loyang Chalet. Here are some snapshots of the little cutie.
