2007-03-10 & 11 SCAL Family Day at Batam
Finally managed to find some time to upload photos from last weekend’s trip to Batam. Yh’s company’s annual family trip brought us to Indonesia, Batam’s Harris Resort, for a 2 day weekend trip. We woke up pretty early to head down to Harborfront’s Cruise centre to board the ferry to Waterfront City (45 min away).
Since we had such a large group (50+ rooms booked), we could get through customs faster and quickly boarded 3 coaches that would bring us to Harris Resort. But first, our day would start off with some city sight seeing and lunch. Our tour guide for the day was Linda who could converse at ease in Mandarin, English and Bahasa! (We later found out she learnt Mandarin from watching shows from Singapore!).
Lunch was at “Golden Prawn” and although it wasn’t really that fantastic, I guess all of us were famished enough to clear every dish. We also got to purchase some local products and tidbits from a nearby store before heading back to Harris. Actually, this is our 2nd time at Harris (1st was couple of years back for my birthday). I remember back then that the staff were very friendly and must say that they have definitely keep up the standard. We managed to get our rooms sorted out after a bit of a mix up and had some time to clean up before going down for dinner.
A nice buffet dinner greeted us when we headed down by the poolside to enjoy our meal. The Harris staff even organized a few games for the SCAL staff. Yh’s dad who was having his birthday in March was called up to stage to get treated to a birthday song with all the other march “babies”. We didn’t stay on till the end and headed for some table tennis action at the recreation centre to pass the time. We heard from later “gossip” hehe that there a few more couple games and lucky Bj & Ah and Yh’s cousins got up on stage to play.
The next morning, Yh had some fun playing “Flying Fox” from the top storey of the resort with her siblings and cousins while I was sound asleep. Apparently, she had broken the “sound barrier” for being the loudest out of the four of them.
Just before lunch, we also managed to try our hands at Go-Kart racing at the nearby track (S$10 for 10 min lap). Was pretty fun to race round the tracks… I must say HR definitely races like an pro driver at the breakneck speeds he was cornering at. All in all, 2 days seemed to pass rather quickly and soon it was time to head back to Singapore.
