Little Drummer Girl’s Shop

Wendy recently setup up an online shop that has clothing from the region. If you’re interesting to get something or just love browsing for new stuff to get, head on over!

Check out the stuff that we have in our little shop! We are so excited to share the pretty dresses, tops and bottoms we have found! All the clothes are from wholesalers in Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and China, so they are at prices which are friendlier than the retail shops in Singapore. Take a look at our catalogue, choose your favourites and you’ll get them sent to your doorstep in a jiffy!

Opportunities and a dilemma :: Corporate life or Business Owner?

A new opportunity that presented itself recently has been quite a dilemma for me. Do I make a switch from what I’ve been doing for the past 8 years (3 years full-time, 5 part-time) towards a more corporate job at a local listed company?

Pros of my current role:

  • There are a lot of interesting projects that small business owners require as well as the occasional major project that provides solutions for enterprises  definitely keeps me on my toes most of the time.
  • Being part of a small team means we can move and react faster to opportunities.
  • Requires me to be very independent as I usually don’t have the luxury of having another colleague to help out in a project or for backup.
  • Growth would be good but definitely risky as we need to find projects/products that can fuel this growth.

Cons:

  • Being small also means we need to prioritize and take charge of opportunities since we can’t waste time.
  • Having to handle everything, and I mean literally everything from hiring the right people, meeting customers, development, support and maintenance sure takes a lot of time and effort.
  • Not having specialists in some areas sometimes means we take more time to get to a solution.

Pros of the opportunity:

  • I will get to be exposed to a whole new work culture in a much bigger company with many subsidiaries.
  • Should have the financial resources to look into many interesting aspects of improving business  processes.
  • Significantly more stable job with better financial prospects.
  • Will get to see things on a much larger scale and operations than I currently can.

Cons:

  • Will probably be a more strict environment since more red-tape will definitely be in place.
  • Will probably have less freedom to pursue own interests in terms of development projects since will have less to do with IT.

Growing in vs. growing out – Signal vs. Noise (by 37signals)

Doing some reading on business / finance etc.. and came across an article by 37signals. Since I’m also in the software building business, was definitely hooked by their philosophy below.

We’d rather our customers grow out of our products eventually than never be able to grow into them in the first place.
